3sixteen has teamed up with Saucony for an exciting new collaboration, reimagining the Peregrine 15 trail shoe under the concept of “Gesso.” The collaboration takes its name from the artist’s medium used to prime canvases — a substance that enhances paint absorption and creates a strong base for artistic expression. Similarly, this collection aims to provide a canvas for creativity, inviting wearers to personalize and reimagine their shoes.
Set to launch on July 10, the first release will include two colorways: “Indigo” and “Sunflower.” The full collection features four colorways in total — “Indigo,” “Sunflower,” “Granite” “Rubia” — each dyed using natural materials and techniques developed in partnership with Green Matters Natural Dye Company. “Indigo” utilizes GOTS-certified natural indigo; “Sunflower” is dyed with weld flowers; “Granite” is a combination of cutch, iron and chestnut; and “Rubia” is dyed with madder root and chestnut. Each shoe reacts differently to the natural dyeing process based on the materials used, resulting in subtle variations and unique stain-like finishes that give each pair its own character.
The collaboration reflects months of experimentation with different sneakers and fabrics to perfect the pairing of silhouette and hue. Beyond the initial designs, the project encourages buyers to take part in the creative process — using coffee beans, plant-based dyes, or other natural elements to further customize their pairs. It’s not just about new shoes, but about reshaping worn ones too — giving them new life through personal expression and sustainable innovation.
These naturally dyed pairs will be available exclusively through 3sixteen’s official website and at their New York and Los Angeles flagship stores, retailing for $190 USD. The “Blank Canvas” version will release on July 17, while the “Granite” and “Rubia” colorways are set to launch later in July.
