Authorities announced the arrest of a man who they say fatally stabbed another man during an argument in Griffith Park over the weekend.

The Los Angeles Police Department put out a media release Tuesday morning stating that, on Saturday around 2:30 a.m., patrol officers from the Northeast Division were dispatched to the 3200 block of Riverside Drive.

Upon arriving in the area, which is adjacent to the 101 Freeway Glendale Boulevard off-ramp, officers discovered a man suffering from a stab wound. Despite lifesaving efforts from responding paramedics, the man succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.

LAPD later identified him as 48-year-old Richard Ware.

Investigation into the stabbing revealed that Ware had been involved in a dispute with another man, Royce Rainey, when it turned physical.

“Central Bureau Homicide detectives…discovered that Rainey and Ware had been involved in a dispute that escalated into a physical altercation, during which Ware was stabbed,” officials said in Tuesday’s media release.

Rainey, 36, was eventually arrested after officers collected witness statements and located him near Griffith Park after conducting a search of the area.

He was charged with one count of murder. Per LAPD, he is being held without bail.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact LAPD’s Central Bureau Homicide detectives by calling 213-996-4104. During non-business hours and on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-524-3247.
