Authorities are searching for the driver of the sole vehicle involved in a hit-and-run that left one person in the car in serious condition.
A Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson said a call regarding a crash on Sepulveda Boulevard near 96th Street came in to dispatch at 1:50 a.m. Tuesday.
“The vehicle was found to have struck the center median,” the spokesperson said. “The driver was driving at a high rate of speed when it struck the median.”
A passenger inside the vehicle sustained serious injuries from the collision, LAPD says. They were taken to a nearby hospital.
It is unclear whether the driver or any other passengers, if there were any, were hurt.
Police say that there were conflicting initial reports from the scene regarding the suspect and passengers; according to one, the suspect fled with the passengers, who were possibly their children.
Another report from the scene indicated that the driver left the passengers in the vehicle. Both confirmed that a person who was not driving was seriously injured.
Video from the crash site taken by KTLA photojournalist Dan Lunsford shows the vehicle, an Infiniti SUV, sustained significant damage. A small chunk of the top of the median was destroyed.
Traffic was seen being rerouted through the area while officers conducted their initial investigation.
As of 6 a.m. Tuesday, the suspect appeared to remain outstanding, and no arrests had been made. No details surrounding the suspect’s identity were immediately available.
