A man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and driving under the influence after allegedly attempting to hit a group of people with his truck during a July 4 gathering in Adelanto, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
In a press release issued by the department, officials said deputies from the Victor Valley Station were near the intersection of Virginia Street and Jonathan Street around 11:00 p.m. Thursday when they heard shouting coming from a nearby residence. When they approached the area, deputies reportedly saw a red pickup truck attempting to drive into several people standing in a driveway on the 11000 block of Virginia Street.
The driver of the truck fled the scene on foot, but deputies gave chase and apprehended him after a short pursuit. He was identified as 52-year-old Dante Washington, a resident of Adelanto, the department said.
Washington was arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and driving under the influence, according to the sheriff’s department.
No injuries were reported in the incident. The victims were not identified by name and remain confidential.
