Cierra Ortega was removed from the Love Island USA villa following backlash over a social media post where she used a racial slur.

During Season 7, Episode 30, which streamed on Peacock on Sunday, July 6, narrator Iain Stirling made the announcement about 15 minutes into the episode.

“Welcome back to Love Island USA, Cierra has left the villa due to a personal situation, leaving Nic [Vansteenberghe] officially single,” Stirling is heard saying.

In the past few days, a social media post from the past showed aspiring social media influencer Cierra showcasing cosmetic work she had done and referencing her eyes using an offensive racial slur toward the Asian community. Viewers had been vocal on social media, publicly demanding her removal from Love Island USA, and Sunday’s episode addressed her exit after she was heavily edited out before it was announced.

The scene that followed the announcement showed a devastated Nic coping with the news that his love connection on the Peacock dating series had left.

“Right before Cierra had left, my mind was clear,” Nic said. “I knew what the future would look like, and now I’m lost. I think now that my strongest connection is gone, there’s like — just figure it out from here.”

When asked if he was going to try to explore another love connection in the villa, Nic said, “I don’t know.”

Cierra is the second Love Island USA Season 7 Islander to be removed from the villa following the resurfacing of a past social media post using racial slurs. Early on in the season, Islander Yulissa Escobar exited the second episode of the series after a podcast appearance from the past showed her repeatedly using the n-word.

Yulissa issued an apology after exiting the dating series, but has subsequently gone on social media downplaying the severity of her actions.
