A motorcyclist was killed and his passenger was hospitalized after a crash in Long Beach.
On July 3, Long Beach police responded to the intersection of Downey Avenue and South Street shortly before 9:30 p.m.
A preliminary investigation revealed the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on South Street towards Downey Avenue with a female passenger.
As he approached the intersection, a Toyota 4Runner was turning left when the motorcycle crashed into it, police said.
Both motorcycle riders were ejected from the bike. Officers arriving at the scene found a man lying on the southbound lanes of Downey Avenue and a woman lying on a nearby sidewalk.
The man, Jonathon Porras, 20, of Long Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman, who was not identified, was taken to the hospital and was treated for her injuries.
The Toyota driver is cooperating with the investigation. At this time, police said speed and distracted driving may be potential factors in the crash.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to call LBPD Detective Efrain Pineda at 562-570-7355.
