A 5-year-old child is dead and two more are hospitalized after they were found stabbed in a burning Chicago home in an alleged act of violence by their own mother, according to reports.
First responders who arrived at the Logan Square townhouse that was engulfed in flames Friday morning discovered the kids with stab wounds, WLS reported.
The 5-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital, while two more kids — ages 10 and 14 — were hospitalized.
Their condition was unknown.
Officials have not commented on the tragic circumstances, but sources told CBS Chicago a mother stabbed her kids and then tried to torch their home.
A member of the family called 911, sources said.
An adult woman was also found inside the home and taken to the hospital by police, sources told WLS.
The flames spread to a neighboring house, and a woman living there was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Both homes appear to have been gutted by the fires, with photos from the scene showing their windows smashed and warped walls covered in soot.
