Actor Michael Madsen has passed away. He was 67 years old.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told The Hollywood Reporter that deputies responded to the actor’s Malibu home on Thursday morning after receiving a 911 call. They found the actor unresponsive and declared him dead at 8:25 a.m.

“We understand Michael had a cardiac arrest,” his rep, Liz Rodriguez at EMR Media Entertainment, told the outlet.

Madsen’s sister, actress Virginia Madsen, took to Instagram on behalf of the Madsen family to honor her brother.

“My brother Michael has left the stage. He was thunder and velvet. Mischief wrapped in tenderness. A poet disguised as an outlaw,” she wrote. “A father, a son, a brother—etched in contradiction, tempered by love that left its mark.”

She said that the Madsen family isn’t “mourning a public figure” or “a myth,” but they’re mourning “flesh and blood and ferocious heart, who stormed through life loud, brilliant, and half on fire. Who leaves us echoes—gruff, brilliant, unrepeatable—half legend, half lullaby.”

The “Sideways” actress said she’ll miss her inside jokes with her brother as well as “the sudden laughter, the sound of him.”

“I’ll miss the boy he was before the legend. I miss my big brother.”

“Thank you to everyone reaching out with love and memory,” she continued. “In time, we’ll share how we plan to celebrate his life. But for now—we stay close, and let the silence say what words can’t.”

Born in Chicago, Illinois, the actor is known for his roles in films like “Reservoir Dogs,” “Kill Bill,” “Donnie Brasco,” “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” and many more. On IMDB he has over 320 acting credits to his name.

“In the last two years Michael Madsen has been doing some incredible work with independent film including upcoming feature films ‘Resurrection Road,’ ‘Concessions and Cookbook for Southern Housewives,’ and was really looking forward to this next chapter in his life,” his managers wrote in a joint statement obtained by USA Today.

“Michael was also preparing to release a new book called ‘Tears For My Father: Outlaw Thoughts and Poems,’ currently being edited,” the statement continued. “Michael Madsen was one of Hollywood’s most iconic actors, who will be missed by many.”

From 1991 to 1995, Madsen was married to Jeannine Bisignano; they welcomed two sons, Christian and Max.

In 1996, he married DeAnna Morgan, and they had three children together: Luke, Kalvin and Hudson. In 2022, Hudson passed away by suicide.
