Following a disappointing loss in the championship game of the Commissioner’s Cup, the Minnesota Lynx (14-2) will host the Washington Mystics (8-9) at Target Center on Thursday night.

Sporting the WNBA’s best record and playing against an Indiana Fever team missing Caitlin Clark, expectations were that the Lynx would pull out the Commissioner’s Cup victory. However, the Lynx were hounded all night and couldn’t find their rhythm, shooting just 34.9% from the field as a team. Star Napheesa Collier had a rare off game, scoring just 12 points on 6-of-18 shooting, with five turnovers. After a first quarter that saw the Lynx grab a 20-12 lead, they’d be outscored 62-39 the rest of the way, leading to the 74-59 loss.
Washington had won four of five games to claw their way back to an even 8-8 record before their most recent game, a 79-71 loss on the road against the Dallas Wings. The Mystics stumbled out of the gate, finding themselves down 28-9 after the first quarter, and never could recover. Sonia Citron scored 22 points to go with 10 rebounds, while Shakira Austin chipped in with 18 points in the loss.
