The best gifts to give to each character will always depend on their preferences. Luckily, Persona 5: The Phantom X makes it easy for you by showing you each characters’ preferred gifts in the “Likes” tab of the “Synergy” menu.
Some preferred gifts are more valuable than others if you look at their synergy to cost ratio, but as you reach higher synergy levels, you’ll need to purchase “less valuable” items to get a lot of synergy in one go. This does go without saying, you should always try to give each gift once because of the first-time bonus. We recommend purchasing a gift just before your hang out — except when there is a yellow “Form Bonds” heart. You won’t be able to give a gift on these hang outs.
Make sure you’re not wasting some of your more valuable gifts because there will be moments where synergy doesn’t carry over to the next level. For example, for Merope, you’ll need to create Personas with specific spells before you can level up your bond, so you shouldn’t give a gift if you’re close to the level threshold. The game does warn you if your synergy won’t carry over, so be sure to read the pop-ups!
