Los Angeles is led by veteran guard Kelsey Plum, who is averaging 20.6 points and 5.6 assists per game, with support from forward Dearica Hamby, who averages 16.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.9 steals. In their last game, the Sparks dropped a home contest to the Chicago Sky (92-85), despite holding a one-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. Plum scored 22 points in the loss, but shot just 4-for-16 from the field.
After starting 9-0, the Liberty have hit a significant wall, losing five of their last seven and two in a row. They have one of the best tandems in all of the WNBA, with Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu, averaging 39.4 points, 10 rebounds, 8.8 assists, and 2.8 steals combined. While the offense has continued to perform, the defense has become a problem. In their last two defeats, the Liberty allowed the Phoenix Mercury to shoot 52.6% from the field, while the Atlanta Dream shot 52.9%.
This is the first of three matchups this season between the Sparks and Liberty.
