Summary

  • Swatch Nines Surf 2025 transformed Waco Surf into an action sports playground for three days
  • It features standout performances from athletes across surf, skate and BMX discliplines
  • Innovative setups include a floating halfpipe and the “Swatch Flying O”

Last week, Swatch Nines Surf 2025 transformed the Waco Surf wave pool into an unparalleled action sports playground — showcasing a thrilling collision of surf, skate and BMX disciplines. Held under the Texas sun, the event celebrated the launch of the Swatch Scubaqua while embracing the Nines’ ethos of creativity over competition. Athletes, filmmakers and photographers were given free rein to experiment, resulting in three unreal days of creative chaos.

Innovation and progression were at the forefront, with never-before-seen features pushing the limits of the sport. A massive crane supported a floating halfpipe, complete with a rail and wall rides, introducing snowboarding and skate features for surfers for the very first time. The event also saw the debut of the jaw-dropping Swatch Flying O, an LED ring suspended by a crane, through which surfers could jump, resembling a “ring of fire” that lit up the night. New additions like the Reef Fanning Shoe Wallride, rotating rail builds, and the remote-controlled Motowinch further opened the door to some of the most progressive moments ever witnessed in surfing.

The event was a hotbed of world-first tricks and standout performances. Hughie Vaughan stomped a world-first stalefish backflip, instantly going viral. Other highlights include Noah Beschen‘s next-level rail surfing with a stylish switch revert exit, as well as Matt Meola with the first-ever stalefish alley-oop rodeo 540, which is now dubbed the “Meola Flip.” Adding to the cross-discipline excitement, BMX and skate legends like Kevin Peraza, Andy Anderson and Alex Midler shredded side-by-side above the wave.
