Federal immigration officers have appeared to urinate on school grounds in California, new footage shows.
The El Rancho Unified School District on Wednesday released a video from June 17 allegedly showing Border Patrol agents and unmarked vehicles entering the grounds of Ruben Salazar High School in Pico Rivera. Several agents can then be seen urinating behind shipping containers.
Newsweek contacted The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for comment via email outside of normal office hours.
Responding to the incident, John Contreras, the board president of the El Rancho Unified School District, said: “Not only did ICE agents unlawfully trespass ERUSD school grounds, but they also did not exercise sound and respectful judgment with the risk of exposing themselves to minors and committing a public offense under California law.”
Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn also called for a federal investigation into the incident.
“It’s not enough that they’ve spent weeks violently ambushing people, now ICE and CBP agents are allegedly entering school campuses, pulling down their pants, and urinating on playgrounds,” Hahn said. “It’s a slap in the face to our communities — especially to our children.”
DHS said the incident is under investigation.
ICE and CBP are facing growing scrutiny as they push to carry out President Donald Trump‘s mass deportation policy.
This is a breaking story. More to follow.
