TUSCUMBIA, Ala. (WHNT) — Brent Woodall, a Tuscumbia attorney, has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Place 2 on the Alabama Public Service Commission (PSC).

At the center of Woodall’s campaign is his focus and his promise to end the public service commission’s “hidden tax” that are quietly hurting Alabama families whose utility companies are regulated by the Public Service Commission.

Woodall went on to to say how just paying your regular utility bill comes with more than what some may think.

“Every single month, when you think you’re just paying for electricity or natural gas, you’re not. Hidden in your bills is a tax you didn’t vote for, a tax most people don’t evenknow exists. The PSC takes millions more than it needs from the utilities — money thatcomes straight out of your pockets — and instead of giving it back to you, they ship it off toMontgomery for politicians to spend however they want.” said Woodall.

Woodall believes that customers who are overpaying deserve their money back. Weather its in the form of lower rates, rebates, or refunds, Woodall says that money belongs to you and not the state.

“I’m not running to play politics,” Woodall said. “I’m running to fight for Alabama familiesand bring transparency, fairness, and accountability to the Public Service Commission,” Woodall added.

With decades of experience, Woodall has served as an Assistant United States Attorney,an Assistant Alabama Attorney General, the Chief of Staff for a commissioner at the PSC,and a Central Staff Attorney for the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals.

He was also a delegate for President Trump in 2016 and a conservative talk show host. As a resident of Colbert County, Woodall is married to his wife Marie who he shares two children with.
