BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A suspect has been arrested after an ambulance was allegedly stolen from the Baton Rouge General Mid City Hospital early Wednesday morning.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the vehicle was taken around 5:30 a.m. but was later recovered.

The driver, identified as 38-year-old Flordy Washington, led officers on a 38-minute vehicle pursuit through the City of Baton Rouge.

The Baton Rouge Police Department responded to the 3600 block of Florida Boulevard about a vehicle theft in progress. Dispatch told police that an EMS ambulance had been stolen.

Officers began to search the area and noticed the vehicle at N. Foster Drive and Gus Young Avenue. Officers activated their marked unit’s lights and sirens in an attempt to pull the vehicle over.

During the pursuit, Washington failed to stop at two red lights, which resulted in a crash. The chase ended in the 2100 block of Elwood Court, where Washington refused to cooperate with officers.

He was then taken into custody and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges including but not limited to resisting an officer, aggravated obstruction of highway commerce, aggravated flight from an officer, theft of a motor vehicle, and aggravated criminal damage to property.

Police said Washington has a lengthy criminal history and is currently on probation for auto theft.
