Are Deftones Teasing a New Album? Behind “Private Music”

Over the weekend, Deftones performed a set at Crystal Palace Park in London, and during the show, the band teased something titled “Private Music,” which could be a new album or song.

As the band played, the screen behind them displayed the phrase “Private Music,” along with the Roman numerals X.VII.MMXXV. Lambgoat points out that this could be read as July 10, 2025, or October 7, 2025, but that July 10 seems more likely as it’s a Friday and new music traditionally drops on Fridays.

There have been rumors that, last year, Deftones wrapped up recording new music with producer Nick Raskulinecz, but nothing concrete or official has emerged until now.

While we still have to wait for confirmation on whether or not Deftones are dropping new music, whatever you do… do not walk up to vocalist Chino Moreno and ask him if you see him on the street.

Earlier this year, Moreno was out and about, minding his own business, when he was swarmed by fans with stacks of vinyl that they wanted him to sign. Visibly irritated — cause he probably knows they’re just looking to flip the albums for an “autographed” markup on eBay or something — the vocalist obliged but was only pestered further by the mob.

“Go ahead and tell your friends I’m not doing this shit no more,” Moreno says in footage of the interaction. “You guys go online in your little groups and shit, tell people I’m not signing shit no more. I signed these right now, but let them know I’m not signing anything.”

In a tragic case of inability to read the room, one fan then immediately asked Moreno to sign “these last two for the road,” prompting the singer to shake his head and walk away. The lesson here, please enjoy Deftones from a safe, and respectful distance…
