HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — In 2014, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge took the nation and world by storm, raising money to find a cure for the disease. That first year, over $114 million was raised for the ALS Association.

The social media phenomenon encourages corporate, business, and community leaders to support the mission of the ALS Association. This event was inspired by it.

Amy Bromhead, the director of development for the ALS Association, says, “Every 90 minutes someone dies from ALS and someone is diagnosed with ALS.”

The goal of the ALS Association is to make this disease livable by 2030 and to find a cure.

This year’s soak will be held at Bicentennial Park in Huntsville on Thursday, July 17, at 4:30 p.m.

Last year, the CEO Soak for the ALS Association in Huntsville raised over $55,000. This year’s goal is to raise $60,000 to go toward finding a cure for this devastating disease.

News 19 Takes Part in the CEO Soak:

This year, Meteorologist Jessica Camuto will once again emcee and participate in the soak. Alongside Jessica, News 19 Morning Anchor Ellie Byrd will also be getting soaked to raise awareness for ALS.
