Police are now investigating Bob Vylan and Kneecap’s Glastonbury sets.

In what has been a fast-moving story over the past 48 hours, the local Avon and Somerset police force have just announced that they have opened investigations into both and have recorded the activity as a “public order incident” for the time being.

“Video footage and audio from Bob Vylan and Kneecap’s performances at Glastonbury Festival on Saturday has been reviewed,” said the police force in a statement. “Following the completion of that assessment process we have decided further enquiries are required and a criminal investigation is now being undertaken. A senior detective has been appointed to lead this investigation.”

The force added: “This has been recorded as a public order incident at this time while our enquiries are at an early stage. The investigation will be evidence-led and will closely consider all appropriate legislation, including relating to hate crimes.”

The police did not specify which part of Bob Vylan or Kneecap’s set would be subject to the criminal investigation.

Punk duo Bob Vylan chanted “death to the IDF” and complained about working for a “f***ing Zionist.” Their live stream was not taken down from the BBC, which the corporation today said it “regrets,” while the duo have since been dropped by UTA.

Kneecap were heard accusing Israel of genocide and chanting “free, free Palestine,” while voicing support  for Palestine Action, a protest group that the UK government intends to proscribe under anti-terror laws. One member of the Irish hip-hop trio is already bailed on a terror charge, while the group has just been let off after being investigated for calling for the death of MPs at a gig 18 months ago. Due to these concerns, Kneecap’s set was not shown live on the BBC but uploaded to iPlayer afterwards.
