PHOENIX — Lowe’s recently announced it will be donating $350,000 to two Valley nonprofits as part of its Hometowns initiative project.
The two nonprofits are part of 100 community-nominated, large-scale renovations which are meant to revitalize nonprofit and community spaces that serve as hubs.
The Hometowns program is in its fourth year and is part of Lowe’s $100 million commitment to repairing and restoring millions of square feet of community space.
“At Lowe’s, we believe we have a fundamental responsibility to improve the place we all call home,” Lowe’s chairman and CEO Marvin Ellison said. “Lowe’s Hometowns is a true demonstration of how Lowe’s red vest associates across the country show up and help. Working alongside nonprofit partners, each project delivers real, life-changing impact to the communities we serve.”
What are the Valley nonprofits benefitting from Lowe’s Hometowns program?
The two Valley nonprofits that were selected for the program were St. Joseph the Worker and New Life Center.
St. Joseph the Worker will receive $100,000 which enable the organization to renovate its Workforce Villages Re-entry Program home. The renovations will include replacing subflooring, flooring, baseboards, kitchen cabinets, kitchen countertops, a new kitchen window, painting and electrical work.
These improvements are meant to create a safe space for women exiting the justice system and provide them with a place to rebuild their lives and achieve long-term stability.
Meanwhile, New Life Center — a domestic violence refuge — will receive $250,000 from the program. The money will go towards renovating eight of the organization’s emergency shelters casitas including installing new bathroom fixtures, durable flooring and energy efficient lighting.
The upgrades are supposed to ensure that domestic violence survivors have a welcoming and calming environment to heal in.
In addition to Lowe’s Hometowns projects, red vest associate volunteers will tackle 1,700 associate-selected community improvement projects across the country.
According to a recent report from Points of Light — Lowe’s program implementation partner—, integrating volunteerism into corporate impact is a necessity in order to effectively meet community needs.
