A murder investigation is underway after a man was shot to death in a Long Beach parking lot, police announced Saturday.

The violence unfolded on Friday night, according to the Long Beach Police Department, in the 5400 block of Paramount Boulevard.

It was around 7:54 p.m. when officers responded to calls of a shooting in the area, and arrived to find someone who was only identified as an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body.

Officers began rendering medical aid until the Long Beach Fire paramedics arrived, but they ultimately pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Police said that the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner is working to determine the identity of the decedent, which will then be withheld pending next of kin.

Homicide detectives arrived to begin their investigation. No arrests have been made as of Saturday night, but the department told KTLA, “Our detectives are actively pursuing all leads in this ongoing investigation.”

When asked about whether they have a suspect description, the department responded with, “The motive for the shooting, suspect information and the circumstances of the incident are currently under investigation.”

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Homicide Detectives Michael Hubbard and Kelsey Myers at 562-570-7244. Anonymous tips may be submitted through “LA Crime Stoppers” by calling 800-222-TIPS (8477) or by visiting www.LACrimeStoppers.org.
