HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The FBI has postponed bringing some training operations to Redstone Arsenal, according to an organization representing thousands of National Training Academy graduates.

FBI National Academy Associates, or FBINAA, Inc., is a nonprofit organization that represents law enforcement professionals who are graduates of the National Training Academy.

The group posted online Thursday that the FBI would not be moving forward with bringing a National Academy pilot program to the Rocket City due to infrastructure limitations.

“We’re pleased to share that the FBI has decided not to move forward with a National Academy pilot in Huntsville, citing infrastructure limitations. Thank you to our FBINAA members for your input and continued support of the NA program and the FBINAA!” the FBI National Academy Associates posted on their X account.

This comes a couple of weeks after the Washington Post reported that FBI leadership was considering moving the National Training Academy from Quantico, Virginia, to Huntsville.

However, the post from the FBINAA, Inc. seems to signal that even though official moves to fully relocate the National Training Academy to the Huntsville area have not yet been made, the FBI was at least considering a pilot program at Redstone Arsenal.

News 19 reached out to the FBI about the issue, and the Bureau said it is considering its long-term plans for Redstone Arsenal, including the National Academy.

“The FBI remains committed to maximizing its investments in Huntsville, taking advantage of the incredible campus at the Richard Shelby Center for Innovation and Advanced Training.  The FBI is establishing its long-term plan to move additional advanced training capabilities to Redstone Arsenal, to include the National Academy. The timing for the National Academy transition will be based on the opening of new facilities to meet the National Academy’s unique requirements.  The FBI will continue to work with our partners and stakeholders throughout these planning efforts.”

An FBI Spokesperon

The National Training Academy is a 10-week program that provides “training opportunities to federal, state, municipal and international agencies and partners,” particularly leaders and managers of state, local, county, tribal, military, federal and international law enforcement agencies.
