DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) — The Decatur City Board of Education approved a 3% salary increase for all employees during a board meeting that took place on Tuesday.

Decatur City School (DCS) said that the state didn’t provide a raise to employees this year, so the school board made it a priority to get the raise increase to employees themselves.

Preliminary academic data suggests this will be the strongest year of academic achievement in DCS history.

“I want to thank everyone for all the work you put into Decatur City Schools, more importantly, the report card and how best to show people you appreciate them. Words can say everything but with money you can show people how much you appreciate them. I wish we could have given four or five -even a ten-percent raise but we can’t with everything goin on. We are glad to give them what we’re able to. Again, thanks to all the teachers, the scores, the report card and everyone for all your hard work.” – Mrs. Michele Gray King, Board President.

Superintendent Dr. Michael Douglas shared the following message regarding the recent salary increase:

“We are projecting one of the best report card years ever, and that’s a tribute to our teachers. In this day and age, with a teacher shortage across the country, it’s more important than ever to show our people how much we appreciate them—not just with words, but with action.”

“We know this raise won’t solve every challenge, but it’s a step forward in showing our teachers and staff they are valued, appreciated, and essential to our success. To every employee in Decatur City Schools—thank you. This is for you,” said Decatur City Schools.

The salary increase will be implemented for all employees during the 2025-2026 school year.
