An armed suspect was fatally shot by an employee while attempting to rob a dispensary in Los Angeles County Tuesday night, authorities said.

Officers received a 911 call shortly after 11 p.m. reporting that a robbery had just occurred at Savage Mobile on the 5800 block of Imperial Highway in South Gate.

Police officers arriving at the scene learned that a robbery suspect had been shot and was still inside the business, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to KTLA.

The alleged robber was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect had been shot following some type of struggle with an employee, who was also armed. The spokesperson said that the employee was cooperating with the investigation.

Although the shop is named Savage Mobile, the spokesperson said the business is a marijuana dispensary, not a mobile store.

Anyone with information about this incident was encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Those who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or go to the lacrimestoppers.org website.

KTLA’s Alexis Lewis contributed to this report.
