Couple Renovating Home Think Nothing Can Shock Them—Then It Happens

A couple renovating their home thought nothing else could shock them—until they walked into their kitchen and discovered an unexpected visitor: a fox, perched calmly on the worktop.

Christy Hamilton, who shares her home transformation journey under the Instagram handle @casa.blanca_____, has been documenting her extensive refurbishment online. A recent video showing the fox peeking from its perch toward Hamilton racked up more than 328,000 likes and over 6.4 million views.

“POV [point of view]: You reach the stage of the renovation where you think nothing can surprise you anymore … but then … You find a fox on your kitchen counter,” read the text overlay on the video, which captured the wild animal looking entirely at home.

“This house is full of surprises! Perfect timing for a new pet, don’t you think! What should we do?” Hamilton captioned the clip.

The property, an 1870s Victorian terrace full of character and original features, has proven to be as unpredictable as it is charming. The couple purchased the home via an auction site and have taken on the entire project themselves, documenting the highs and lows along the way. From damp, moldy walls and persistent leaks to having no running water or electricity, the challenges have been significant—but so have the milestones.

This particular surprise, however, was one of the more delightful.

So far, the couple have spent approximately £10,119 (around $12,800) over six months. Their expenses include:

  • Building materials including steel beams and pipework for heating and water — £3,273 ($4,130)
  • 105 square meters (1,139 square feet) of solid wood parquet flooring — £135 ($170)
  • Mineral wool insulation slabs — £969 ($1,223)
  • Building consumables (nails, screws, blades, etc.) — £708 ($894)
  • Tools — £532 ($671)
  • Temporary furniture — £837 ($1,056)
  • Miscellaneous construction items — £2,248 ($2,834)

The RSPCA said that finding a fox indoors isn’t common, but it can happen if doors are left open during construction or if the animal is particularly bold.

The charity advises remaining calm, giving the animal a clear exit route, and gently encouraging it to leave by making noise or slowly walking it toward an open door. If it doesn’t leave or appears injured, professional wildlife rescue should be contacted.

Instagram users were both amused and delighted by the surprise.

“He has definitely been visiting for a while with that look,” posted one user.

“I heard you were looking for a new barista?” added another.

“The look on the fox’s face,” commented Kirstine.

“Ooh a fox distribution club, I am here for it,” one comment read.

“Well I was not expecting that. I’d definitely keep him,” one viewer wrote.

“Haha his little face! ‘Umm what are you doing in my house?’” added another.

“As soon as I would have turned the corner, I might have fainted. The house is his now,” said Paula.
