HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A WARN notice states that AT&T Alabama will be laying off employees in the Huntsville area.

The notice shows that the company will lay off 73 employees starting in September. The layoffs were initially reported on June 20.

News 19 reached out to AT&T, who provided a statement regarding the impending layoffs.

We’re undergoing targeted workforce reductions and focusing on growth areas as part of our regular review of operations to ensure we have the right level of support where needed. Reducing our workforce is a difficult decision that we don’t take lightly. We make every effort to do this through attrition, voluntary departures, and reskilling efforts, but there are times like this when additional reductions are necessary.  For eligible employees affected by these changes, we will provide severance pay, benefits and outplacement services.

Eric Onyechefule, Lead Manager, Communications & PR

On June 9, 2025, AT&T stated that it had invested more than $2.7 billion in network infrastructure in Alabama between 2020 and 2024. On their website, AT&T said they are “committed to expanding connectivity,” which includes expanding access to fiber in order to meet the demand for internet connection in all parts of Alabama.

The AT&T website also says that there are more than 3.3 million strand miles of fiber in the state.

The WARN Act helps to ensure companies give advanced notice “in cases of qualified plant closings and mass layoffs,” the U.S. Department of Labor says.
