A country music star once widely viewed as MAGA-friendly has been disinvited from a law enforcement fundraiser at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago golf resort after cracking late-night jokes about the president.
But according to a source close to Jelly Roll, his team never knew he had been invited in the first place, and only learned about the withdrawn invitation on social media.
Law Enforcement Today sent Jelly Roll an invitation in April asking him to perform a worship song for the Big Blue Bash in November, Fox News Digital reported Tuesday. The event is meant to benefit a foundation supporting the families of wounded and fallen federal officers.
Jelly Roll didn’t respond to the invitation, Kyle Reyes of Law Enforcement Today told Fox News, adding that the organization decided to withdraw it anyway after he guest-hosted “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and mocked Trump’s weightand approval ratings.
“We don’t hold Jelly Roll’s hate against him — but we sure aren’t going to welcome him into the home of the very man he decided to attack,” Reyes told Fox News Digital. “We also aren’t going to allow a God-honoring event where we pay tribute to the families of fallen officers and pray over their families to be tarnished by a man who has lost his way.”
Jelly Roll has pushed back against efforts to place him in either political wing.
“It is funny that before this week everybody thought I was MAGA. And now they think I’m some sort of liberal snowflake,” he said during one of his late-night monologues.
Jelly Roll’s invitation originally told the singer there was “no better way to close out our event than with your voice,” Fox News Digital reported. Rachel Holt and Coffey Anderson will perform at the event instead, Reyes told the outlet, adding that an American Idol star would be making a surprise appearance.
