The wife of celebrity hairstylist Fabio Sementilli has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in her husband’s murder.
Monica Sementilli was sentenced on Monday, more than two months after she was convicted of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the 2017 slaying in Woodland Hills.
Together with her boyfriend, Robert Baker, she arranged for her husband’s fatal stabbing by Baker and Baker’s accomplice, Christopher Austin, who alleged Monica Sementilli left a door unlocked so they could attack Fabio Sementilli.
Baker was also sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, while Austin received a 16-year sentence for second-degree murder.
Monica Sementilli wanted to avoid a costly divorce and instead receive a payout from her husband’s life insurance policy, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said when announcing her conviction.
“Monica Sementilli betrayed the person who loved and trusted her most,” District Attorney Nathan Hochman said in a release announcing the sentence. “Her calculated scheme to profit from her husband’s death cost a kind and talented man his life and devastated a family. Today’s sentence ensures that she will spend the rest of her life behind bars — where she can no longer deceive or destroy lives. Justice caught up with her.”
Hochman also noted the “complex, years-long investigation and prosecution” when thanking law enforcement and prosecutors.
“Thanks to the relentless work of our prosecutors — particularly Deputy District Attorneys Beth Silverman and Heather Steggell — and law enforcement partners, the truth emerged and justice was served for Fabio and all who loved him,” he said.
