MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating a death in New Market.
On Sunday, around 9:50 p.m., MCSO said deputies responded to a 911 call in the 700 block of Davis Road. When they arrived, the sheriff’s office said deputies found a woman with critical injuries similar to being hit by a vehicle.
MCSO said emergency medical personnel responded and took the woman to Huntsville Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Preliminary investigation led deputies to determine that the incident stemmed from a fight between a husband and a wife while driving together in a vehicle.
“The victim, identified as 31-year-old Maria Silos of Madison County, was initially driving. During the dispute, she pulled over to the shoulder of the road. The altercation escalated outside the vehicle, at which point the offender, identified as Garland Lockwood of Huntsville, allegedly took control of the vehicle and struck the victim,” MCSO said.
Lockwood, 45, was arrested and charged with murder-domestic violence and was transported to the Madison County Jail. He is currently being held without bond.
