Mendi is a headband that claims to help you focus, boost mental clarity and even reduce stress and anxiety.

“It teaches you how to visualize your brain and improve it,” said Moha Bensofia, “chief evangelist” for Mendi. It uses neurofeedback to “train” your brain.

“Neurofeedback is basically the ability to visualize what is happening inside your brain,” explained Bensofia.

It’s a concept that’s been around for decades – now it’s packaged into a wearable you can use at home.

“What this does is it makes you make better decisions and makes you feel better,” says Bensofia.

To try it out, I put on the $300 headset. It doesn’t seem like much – the inside is rubbery and has sensors that measure your brain waves.

There’s no vibration. No sensation. You don’t feel anything happening.

To get started, you tap “Start Training” on the app. It will ask you how you feel, then you get started with some breathing exercises.

After, you’ll begin the exercise, which is a simple game you control with your mind (or attempt to).

You focus on a floating ball. The more calm and focused you are – the higher it goes.

It takes some getting used to – especially when nothing seems to be happening on screen. But the more you do it, the more you can focus – and the more you’re training your brain.

Is it worth $300? Hard to say after just a few tries, but I did start to get better the more I played.

“If you’re walking around shirtless every day you’re going to want a six pack… it’s not the same with the brain. But yes, everyone can improve their brain through neurofeedback,” concluded Bensofia.

My take? Mendi is kind of like a lot of things we do to stay healthy – you know it’s probably good for you, but you might not immediately be able to see the return on your investment.
