Paramount+ has handed a Season 2 renewal to MobLand, starring Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren. The news, announced in a short video, which you can watch below, comes three weeks after the series, from executive producer Guy Ritchie, creator, writer and exec producer Ronan Bennett, writer/exec producer Jez Butterworth, David C. Glasser’s 101 Studios and MTV Entertainment Studios, wrapped its freshman run on the streaming platform.

It was paced by the premiere episode, which has amassed 26 million views over the first 70 days in the U.S and other English-speaking markets, where MobLand premiered March 30, and the first 9 days for non-English speaking territories, where the show debuted May 30, according to internal streaming data. That makes it the second biggest launch for a Paramount original series behind Landman, per internal global data for the first 90 days of release. Additionally, starting with the week following the premiere of the series’ third episode, MobLand has made every Nielsen Top 10 list of Streaming Originals for the past five weeks in a row.

“With more than 26 million viewers and climbing, MobLand has become a resounding triumph – driven by the creative brilliance of Guy, Jez, Ronan and David Glasser, and brought to life by the powerhouse performances of Tom, Pierce, and Helen,” said Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount and President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment. “We are elated to greenlight a second season of this global phenomenon, which has dominated both domestic and international charts and soared to #1 in the UK.”

In MobLand, two mob families clash in a war that threatens to topple empires and lives. Led by Hardy, Brosnan and Mirren, the cast also includes Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, Jasmine Jobson, Geoff Bell, Daniel Betts, Lisa Dwan and Emily Barber.

“MobLand was one of those incredible moments where Chris McCarthy came to us with the vision of creating the next great mob series and, after traversing the UK countryside in a quest to land Guy Ritchie, we both came to the realization that we knew the exact formula,” said Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios. “With the extraordinary talent of Guy, Ronan, Jez and our incredible cast, we brought that vision to life.”

Executive producing MobLand are Keith Cox, Nina L. Diaz, Ritchie, Glasser, Butterworth, Bennett, Kris Thykier, Ivan Atkinson, Hardy, Dean Baker, Anthony Byrne, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, and Bob Yari.

It marks Butterworth’s second breakout TV series for Paramount+. following The Agency (for Paraount+ with Showtime), under the exclusive TV overall deal he was signed into by McCarthy.

“TV was a brand new world for me and I was reluctant to commit to a TV overall, but Chris, David, and the teams at Paramount and 101 Studios, completely changed my perspective with their bold creative vision and razor-sharp strategic insight,” Butterworth said. “Collaborating with Chris, David, Guy and our stellar cast has been nothing short of inspiring and I’m excited to dive into the second season of MobLand.”

MobLand is commissioned by Paramount+, produced in association with MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios and distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
