A multi-vehicle crash that left one person dead and two others injured, including an officer, has forced the southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway to remain closed for several hours through the Brentwood area of Los Angeles Monday morning.
The incident was reported around 2 a.m. near Moraga Drive, not far from Sunset Boulevard.
Video showed a badly damaged pickup truck and a sedan with an airbag deployed left on the southbound side of the freeway as emergency crews were responding.
An unidentified victim from one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other victims were transported to local hospitals in unknown condition.
An officer involved in the crash was down and not responding when found, according to the California Highway Patrol’s traffic incident log. The log did not identify which department the officer worked for.
There was no update on the officer’s condition, but video did show medics performing life-saving measures as a person believed to be the officer was being wheeled into the hospital.
A second patient was also transported to a local hospital in unknown condition.
At one point, a helicopter landed on the freeway, possibly to transport one of the patients.
All lanes on the southbound side of the freeway remained closed as of 4:30 a.m.
There was no immediate word on what led up to the crash.
