The Phillies signed Kyle Schwarber to a four-year, $79 million deal before the 2022 season. However, his deal will be coming to an end after the season, and the star slugger should have many suitors.

While the Phillies are focused on making a World Series run this year, they have already made a decision on what they plan to do about Schwarber’s contract, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.

“The Phillies, who attempted to lock up DH Kyle Schwarber in spring training, aren’t hiding their intentions to re-sign him when he’s a free agent,” wrote Nightengale. “They know how valuable he is in their clubhouse in addition to being a lethal left-handed bat.”

Schwarber has been a key part of the Phillies’ success in recent years, and the team has seemingly decided that it will make an effort to bring him back. ESPN’s Jeff Passan projects that Schwarber’s next deal could be a four-year, $100 million commitment.

Schwarber will be turning 33 before next season, and a nine-figure deal could be viewed as a risk. However, when the Phillies look at what he has done for their team, it makes sense why they want him back.

Schwarber has hit 154 home runs in 542 games for the Phillies. He was named an All-Star in 2022 and hit six home runs in the 2022 postseason, helping the Phillies win a National League pennant.

Schwarber has hit more home runs for the Phillies than he did in six seasons with the Chicago Cubs. He is one of the best hitters in baseball. Since 2019, only Aaron Judge and Pete Alonso have hit more home runs than Schwarber.
