The heartwarming moment a dog was reunited with her sister after a year apart has gone viral online, and a twist of fate means there will be many more meetups from now on.

In May 2024, Kira, 29, became a dog owner when she brought home her 12-week-old miniature poodle, Nala. She’s loved seeing her young pup grow in confidence and explore the world around her over the last year, telling Newsweek that she is “the sweetest little girl.”

When Kira, of Dusseldorf, Germany, and her boyfriend visited the breeder before finally getting to take Nala home, they also met her three sisters in the litter. She stayed in touch with the breeder to find out if he was having any other litters because Kira’s parents were thinking about getting a new dog after sadly losing theirs in 2023.

But an extraordinary turn of events changed those plans for the better.

“In the past year, my parents looked after Nala when I was busy and they were always so excited when she came to visit,” Kira said. “They loved her friendly nature, and they were interested in getting a puppy from the same breeder.

“But in April, the breeder told me that one of Nala’s sisters was looking for a new home. Unfortunately the family that originally adopted her wasn’t able to look after her anymore. As the breeder knew my parents were interested in getting a new dog, he asked if they could see themselves adopting an adult dog rather than a puppy.”

As a result, Kira’s parents went to meet Nala’s sister and instantly fell in love with her. They simply couldn’t resist giving her a new home.

When they brought her home shortly after, Kira and Nala were there waiting so the siblings could be reunited after a year apart.

“We wanted Nala to be the first thing she saw in her new environment. We hoped that with her sister being there, she would feel more at home. After meeting in the park, we went to my parents’ house so she could become acquainted with her new home,” Kira said.

The dogs played together for ages in the garden, as they ran around and chased each other endlessly.

Kira was so excited to see her dog and sister together again after being separated as puppies, and loves that they’ll be able to meet up more frequently now. Before the meeting, Kira felt understandably nervous that they may not get along, but as it turned out, the dogs were “super happy to see each other.”

The family are even planning to take both dogs on vacation together later this year.

A video showing the moment the two sisters reunited with each other was shared on TikTok (@dus_poodle), and it has delighted social media users. In just a matter of days, the clip has gone viral with over 282,300 views and more than 19,000 likes at the time of writing.

The caption alongside the TikTok video reads: “Now those two will be stealing hearts together.”

Kira has been blown away by the online response, telling Newsweek that she “had no idea” the video would capture so much attention.

She said: “The comments on the video were very positive and it’s been great reading them all. I also loved reading about other people’s experiences with reuniting their dogs with their siblings too.”

Needless to say, she’ll be sure to post more videos of Nala and her sister on social media as their sibling bond develops.

Social media users can’t get enough of the sweet moment Nala met her sister again, leading to more than 100 comments on the viral TikTok video so far.

One comment reads: “This is so special for everyone involved!”

Another person wrote: “Awww! I’m so happy they’re reunited! Those little tail wags.”

While another TikTok user added: “I am crying tears of joy, this melted my heart!”
