MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Construction is set to begin for a roundabout near Wall Triana Highway and McKee Road.
Madison County Officials said that construction will take place around 400 feet of each direction from the intersection of Wall Triana Highway and McKee Road.
The project will replace the existing two-way stop intersection with a single-lane modern roundabout.
To accommodate larger vehicles, truck aprons will be provided on the outside of the roundabout.
Officials said that by adding the roundabout, traffic flow should improve and the severity and amount of crashes should go down.
“This infrastructure improvement is part of Madison County’s ongoing efforts to enhance traffic flow and roadway safety,” said Phil Vandifer, Commissioner at Madison County Commission District 4.
According to Madison County officials, construction will begin on Monday, June 23, weather permitting.
To ensure the work can be completed safely and efficiently, the intersection will be fully closed to traffic for the duration of the project. The intersection is expected to reopen by Friday, October 31, as long as there are no significant weather delays.
Message boards have already been placed to notify drivers, and additional signage will be installed before the closure to help guide drivers to alternate routes.
Drivers are advised to use AL Highway 53, Old Railroad Bed Road, Harvest Road, and Caroll Road as alternate routes during the closure.
Officials said that drivers should expect delays and plan accordingly by allowing extra travel time or adjusting their usual routes.
