A man was killed after he was run over by his own semi-truck when it was rear-ended by another truck in Long Beach.
On June 18, Long Beach police responded to a crash on the 2600 block of Pier T Avenue at 6:40 a.m.
A preliminary investigation revealed the victim had stopped his vehicle along the curb line. He exited and was standing next to the engine compartment when his vehicle was rear-ended by an oncoming semi-truck.
The sudden impact pushed him to the ground and he was run over by his truck, which had been pushed forward in the collision, police said.
Despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The second truck driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
Although the cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said neither speed, distracted driving, nor impaired driving appeared to be factors.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call LBPD Detective Ashley Van Holland at 562-570-7355.
