PHOENIX — A Tucson man on Tuesday was sentenced to eight years in prison for downloading and sharing child sexual abuse material, authorities said.
A jury convicted Sergio Herran, 47, of child pornography and possession of child pornography in March, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.
The judge who sentenced him this week also ordered him to pay restitution to his victims who have been identified.

Herran actually received two sentences: an eight-year and a five-year sentence. However, a judge ordered for them to be served concurrently, so if he serves his full sentence, he will be behind bars for eight years total.
He was previously found guilty in the case in 2019, but the conviction was reversed on appeal, prosecutors said.
A retrial revealed evidence that Herran downloaded, viewed and shared images and videos of child sexual abuse material that he downloaded onto a tablet, his computer’s hard drive and a phone SD card.
There was a total of over 1,500 videos and 10,000 images depicting child sexual abuse on his devices, prosecutors said.
However, he was convicted of possessing and distributing only a fraction of his collection.
In total, Herran was found guilty of distributing two videos of child sexual abuse material as well as possessing 13 images and eight videos of child sexual abuse material.
