Downtown Rescue Mission facing ‘critical’ need for food donations

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The Downtown Rescue Mission says they are facing a “critical shortage” of food items in their pantry.

A spokesperson with DRM said the Mission is facing empty or depleting shelves due to the increased demand for services.

You can find a list of their most needed items below:

  • Boxed macaroni and cheese
  • Bags of rice
  • Cake mixes
  • Canned meats, including tuna, Vienna sausages and SPAM
  • Canned vegetable,s including mixed vegetables, sweet peas, carrots, greens, peas, beans
  • Cereal
  • Chef Boyardee canned products
  • Chili (Pull top cans preferred)
  • Chips
  • Cookies
  • Crackers
  • Dry beans and peas
  • Oatmeal
  • Pancake Mix
  • Pasta
  • Pasta sauce
  • Peanut butter
  • Pop-Tarts
  • Rice-A-Roni
  • Soups (Pull top cans preferred)
  • Syrup

Donations can be taken to the Mission, located at 1400 Evangel Drive NW, in Huntsville. They can be dropped off any day of the week between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. You can also donate online.

DMR is a non-profit organization serving the homeless in North Alabama. They offer emergency shelter, warm meals, medical services and life recovery programs. They stated that the Mission distributed 442,070 meals and 3,939 food boxes in the community in 2024.
