A man was found shot to death near a sports complex on the border of San Bernardino and Riverside counties Monday morning, police say.

According to the Colton Police Department, officers responded to reports of a person shot around 5 a.m. on the 3600 block of Placentia Lane, which is located near the AB Brown Sports Complex.

Police arrived in the area and found the victim, identified as 41-year-old Kristian Gutierrez of San Bernardino, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Paramedics with the Colton Fire Department arrived to perform life-saving measures, but they ultimately pronounced Gutierrez dead at the scene.

Police did not reveal whether they have a suspect description or person of interest, but said its Detective Division has assumed the investigation.

In addition, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Scientific Investigations Unit responded to assist with processing the crime scene.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Colton police detective Isabel Jaramillo at 909-370-5142, or Sergeant Shawn McFarland at 909-370-5140.
