Morris Chestnut wants Elementary star Lucy Liu to appear in his CBS show Watson. The star also spoke about whether Matt Berry, the voice of Sherlock Holmes in Watson, will ever appear on-screen, and teased what is to come from Season 2 of the Sherlock Holmes-inspired medical procedural..

Watson creator Craig Sweeney also exec-produced Elementary, starring Liu. Speaking about whether she could appear in Watson, Chestnut said: “I’m trying to track her down and get her to come on our show because, yes, that would be great if we could get her.” Speaking to Deadline he said there are no talks with Liu but he is serious about trying to get her to appear in Watson, which he exec produces as well as stars in.

He was also quizzed on whether Matt Berry, the voice of Sherlock Holmes in Watson, will ever appear on screen. “I will say Holmes, you know, in the mythology, does come back… and we are part of the mythology,” Chestnut said with a glint in his eye.

Speaking at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival, the star also drilled down on Season 2. “We’re going to focus more on the medical cases,” he said in response to a question from Deadline. “There’s going to be more humor and wit.”

He added: “Season 1 was a very challenging season, primarily because it was dealing with the effects of James Moriarty, who was the villain in the show. Watson was on [medication] and [Moriarty] was messing with his prescriptions. Now that’s behind him, he’s going to have a little bit more fun and be a little bit more loose. But overall… we’re going to focus really on the very unique medical cases.”

CBS announced a second season renewal for Watson in March. It came off the back of the Paramount-owned net saying the show’s premiere, in late Jan., was its most-watched scripted episode of the 2024-25 season. The show averaged 6.79M viewers each week, according to Nielsen figures.

Season 2 will not drop in the fall, but in midseason in a January 10pm slot. Chestnut shared his take on Watson at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival, which opened Friday night with the French premiere of his show. The Festival started in earnest Saturday.
