Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes were able to pull off a miraculous run to end the 2024 season that saw the team win the national championship.

Despite losing the final game of the regular season to the arch-rival Michigan Wolverines, the Buckeyes were able to defeat the Tennessee Volunteers, Oregon Ducks, Texas Longhorns, and finally the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to win it all.

Following the 2024 season, Ohio State lost quite a few key players to the NFL. One of those key players was none other than quarterback Will Howard.

Entering the upcoming 2025 college football season, the Buckeyes will have a new starting quarterback. It’s widely expected that Julian Sayin will win the starting job, although he has not officially been named the starter yet.

At this point, Ohio State still has Lincoln Kienholz competing for the job. Tavien St. Clair, the team’s true freshman, was also involved in the quarterback competition, but he does not appear ready to play just yet.

With the 2025 season coming up quickly, one notable college football analyst has spoken out with a high opinion of Sayin.

Josh Pate revealed his quarterback rankings in the Big Ten for the 2025 season. Right now, he has Sayin listed at No. 2 in the rankings behind Penn State standout Drew Allar.

Outside of the top two, the rest of the rankings saw Oregon’s Dante Moore at No. 3, Washington’s Demond Williams at No. 4, Illinois’ Luke Altmyer at No. 5, Nebraska’s Dylan Raiola at No. 6, USC’s Jayden Maiava at No. 7, Michigan’s Bryce Underwood at No. 8, Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza at No. 9, and UCLA’s Nico Iamaleava at No. 10.

Sayin played very briefly last season after transferring to the Buckeyes from Alabama. He completed five of his 12 pass attempts for 84 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions, while also rushing for 24 yards on two attempts.

While he hasn’t seen much time on the field, Ohio State knows how talented he is and the potential that he brings to the field. If Sayin can develop to reaching his full potential, he could very well live up to this hype and even surpass it.

It also helps that the young quarterback would be throwing to two elite targets in Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate, as long as other top-tier weapons.

With that being said, it will be interesting to see what Sayin has in store for the 2025 season. Pate certainly expects big things from the young signal caller.
