Summary

  • Toyota Gazoo Racing unveils GR LH2 Racing Concept, powered by liquid hydrogen, at Le Mans 2024
  • Based on the GR010 HYBRID, it advances Toyota’s hydrogen motorsport development
  • Aims to support carbon-neutral goals through future track testing and tech innovation

Toyota Gazoo Racing has officially unveiled the GR LH2 Racing Concept, a liquid hydrogen-powered test car that represents the next step in Toyota’s push for carbon neutrality through motorsports. Debuting during the 93rd 24 Hours of Le Mans at the H2 Village, the concept builds on years of hydrogen development by the Japanese automaker.

The GR LH2 Racing Concept is based on the GR010 HYBRID Hypercar that competes in the FIA World Endurance Championship. It marks Toyota’s most advanced hydrogen-powered prototype to date, following efforts like the hydrogen-engine Corolla in the Super Taikyu series and demonstration runs of the GR Yaris H2 in the WRC.

Notably, the concept highlights Toyota’s commitment to developing hydrogen technology not just as a sustainable fuel, but as a viable power source for high-performance motorsport. Featuring a liquid hydrogen fuel system, it aims to accelerate innovation across the hydrogen value chain—from production to usage. Unveiled alongside liveries that celebrate Toyota’s 40-year Le Mans legacy, the GR LH2 joins a larger narrative that honors the past while boldly stepping toward the future. Track testing will follow, helping Toyota refine its hydrogen systems and strengthen partnerships that support a zero-emissions future in racing and beyond.
