After revealing his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis, Eric Dane is opening up about his health for the first time.

The Euphoria star got emotional in a preview of an upcoming interview with Diane Sawyer on Monday’s episode of Good Morning America, in which he unpacks life with his ALS diagnosis.

“I wake up every day and I’m immediately reminded that this is happening. It’s not a dream,” said Dane in a sneak peek of the appearance.

After recently returning to work on Euphoria, Dane remains optimistic about what lies ahead. “I don’t think this is the end of my story. I don’t feel like this is the end of me,” he said.

The Grey’s Anatomy alum previously revealed his health news to People in April. “I have been diagnosed with ALS,” he said in a statement at the time.

“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week,” added Dane. “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”

The Mayo Clinic describes ALS as “a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord,” causing a “loss of muscle control. The disease gets worse over time.”

Season 3 of Euphoria went into production in early February 2025 after long delays on the third installment of the HBO drama series. Dane stars as Cal Jacobs, father to Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi).

Dane will be joined in Season 3 by newcomers Kadeem Hardison, musican Rosalia, former professional football player Marshawn Lynch, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Priscilla Delgado, James Landry Hébert and Anna Van Patten in notable guest star roles.
