PHOENIX – “Doomsday Mom” Lori Vallow Daybell was found guilty Thursday in her second Arizona murder conspiracy case.

A Maricopa County jury convicted Vallow Daybell of conspiring with her brother to try killing Brandon Boudreaux, her niece’s ex-husband.

Authorities said Alex Cox shot at — but did not hit — Boudreaux in Gilbert on his sister’s behalf on Oct. 2, 2019.

Cox, 51, collapsed and died less than three months later. The medical examiner ruled that he died of natural causes.

What happened in Lori Vallow Daybell’s first Arizona trial?

In April, Vallow Daybell was convicted of conspiring to murder her estranged husband, Charles Vallow, in July 2019.

Prosecutors convinced the jury that Vallow Daybell plotted with Cox to kill Vallow, arguing she did so in order to collect money from his life insurance policy and marry her then-boyfriend, Chad Daybell.

Vallow, who had expressed concerns about his wife’s mental state when he filed for divorce in February 2019. Cox, who wasn’t charged in either case before he died, claimed self-defense after Vallow was killed.

Vallow Daybell’s sentencing in the first case was delayed until the second case could be prosecuted. The sentencing hearing for both cases was set for July 25.

Lori Vallow Daybell received previous life sentence in Idaho

She already was sentenced to life in prison in Idaho for killing her two youngest children, 7-year-old Joshua “JJ” Vallow and 16-year-old Tylee Ryan, as well as conspiring to kill Tammy Daybell, Chad Daybell’s previous wife.

Daybell, an Idaho author who wrote several religious novels about prophecies and the end of the world, was sentenced to death in a separate trial.

The case drew global attention due to Vallow Daybell’s bizarre claims that her son and daughter were zombies and that she was a goddess sent to usher in the Biblical apocalypse. As a result, the media started calling her the “Doomsday Mom.”

After Vallow Daybell’s Idaho conviction in 2023, she was transferred to Arizona to face charges in the two Maricopa County murder conspiracy cases.
