Browns’ Shedeur Sanders Doesn’t Hold Back Amid QB Competition

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders has become one of the most talked about players in the NFL. He is currently involved in a major quarterback competition ahead of the 2025 season.

Kevin Stefanski and the team’s coaching staff currently has four quarterbacks working to win the Week 1 starting job. Along with Sanders, the Browns have Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel in the competition. Deshaun Watson is also on the roster, but he’s not expected to play this year.

With that being said, Sanders is not being given a very good chance to win the Week 1 job. However, he’s also competing to win the starting job at some point throughout his rookie year.

Sanders has looked sharp on the field during rookie minicamp and OTA’s. He has turned a lot of heads with his arm accuracy and strength and his ability to take care of the football.

Amid the raging quarterback competition, Sanders has spoken out with a strong message. He is saying all of the right things that Cleveland wants to hear.

“Everyday, there is room for improvement in a lot of different areas of my game,” Sanders said. “I never feel full, I’m always hungry… You can always get precise at more things, so I feel that I put in my day’s work, but I am far from where I want to be.”

While his slide from being a projected first or possibly second round pick to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft wasn’t ideal, it may have been the best thing for him. That slide has provided him with a hunger to be great and to prove all of his doubters wrong.

During his college career split between Jackson State and Colorado, Sanders showcased NFL level talent. He completed 70.1 percent of his career pass attempts for 14,347 yards, 134 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions.

There is no denying the talent and potential that he possesses. If he reaches his ceiling, he could very well be the long-term franchise quarterback the Browns have been desperately searching to find.

With the kind of mentality that he has, as he shared in the above quote, Sanders will simply continue growing and improving. Each and every day, he wants to get better.

Expect to see the rookie quarterback continue playing well and forcing his name into the conversation for playing time. He may not win the Week 1 job, but Cleveland fans should expect to see him on the field at some point in 2025 if he continues performing the way he has thus far.
