HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Get out and enjoy the lower humidity because as we head into the second half of the week, the heat and humidity will rise. Along with the return of the steamy conditions, we will also see an increase in rain and storm chances.

An upper-level ridge will begin to move eastward back into the Southeast region. As this ridge shifts farther east, hotter and more humid air will filter into the area. The change in the air mass will be due to strong southwest winds.

At the surface, a warm front will track northward early Friday, supporting the increase of warm air and moisture. The front will also lead to an increase in rain and storms.

The normal high temperature for Huntsville this time of year is 88 degrees. We will see these temperatures, though it will feel much warmer than that. Highs are forecast to reach the upper 80s to nearly 90 degrees.

The increase in humidity will make it feel more like the mid to upper 90s.

Rain and storm chances will increase by Friday and the upcoming weekend. Along with the warm front passage, multiple disturbances will track through the region. We will closely monitor model data for any severe weather potential late week.

Staying Safe In The Heat:

Ahead of the heat on the way it’s important to protect yourself from the heat. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water. If you have to work or you plan to spend time outdoors, wear light colored clothing. Make sure you seek shade and move indoors when needed to cool down.

Stick with The Weather Authority this week for the latest on the heat and storm chances.
