Greta Thunberg hits back at Donald Trump over anger management jibe

Swedish activist Greta Thunberg clapped back at U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday after he described her as a “strange” and “angry” person over her mission to deliver aid to Gaza.

“I think the world needs many more young angry women, to be honest,” Thunberg said as she arrived in Paris after being deported from Israel. “Especially with everything going on right now. That’s the thing we need the most of.”

Thunberg departed Tel Aviv Tuesday morning on a flight to France after Israeli authorities the day before intercepted a boat she was on bound for Gaza.

She was part of a mission organized by the pro-Palestinian Freedom Flotilla Coalition that departed Italy on June 1 to deliver humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza, which faces a hunger crisis caused by Israel’s ongoing war against Hamas militants in the coastal enclave. Left-wing French-Palestinian MEP Rima Hassan was another member of the maritime delegation.

Trump criticized Thunberg over her aid mission, calling her a “strange” and “angry” person — and suggested she should take anger management classes.

After landing at Charles de Gaulle airport on the outskirts of Paris, Thunberg said Israel had committed “an illegal act by kidnapping us in international waters.”

She also denounced the silence of EU governments regarding the mission and accused them of taking “part in the killing of Palestinians” by sending military aid to Israel.

Thunberg also said she was “very worried” about the other members of the ship that had been detained by Israeli authorities. “We heard different messages pointing out that they would not make it easy for them,” she said.

Israeli authorities branded Thunberg’s vessel the “selfie yacht,” and attempted to deport all the passengers and crew after intercepting the boat.

Thunberg and Trump have previously clashed in the past.

During a conference in September 2019, Trump mocked the then-16-year-old climate activist, sarcastically describing her as a “very happy young girl” after Thunberg delivered a speech at the United Nations accusing world leaders of “failing” her generation on climate.

After Time magazine named Thunberg its person of the year in December 2019, Trump took aim again, suggesting she “work on her Anger Management problem.”
