The upside of having Pedro Pascal, the biggest star of the moment, as one leg of the love triangle in your rom-com? Well, the biggest star of the moment is one leg of the love triangle in your rom-com! The downside? He’s hella busy. Or maybe he was sick? In any case, sweetie perfect cinnamon roll angel Pascal was for some (we’re certain valid) reason absent from the premiere of Celine Song’s Materialists on June 7, leaving his co-stars Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans to walk the blue carpet without him. To compensate, Johnson decided to carry a cut-out of his face (on a stick, naturally), which they both smooched.

Not saying which of these possible arrangements is the true ending of the movie, but the fun and flirty spirit is definitely in keeping with the tone we’re all hoping for…

Now, we will say, this is very cute and all, but it would certainly be better if Evans had the guts to kiss Pedro Pascal for real in person. Which Johnson tried to make happen, but the boys wouldn’t go for it.

Why won’t boys just kiss? It doesn’t have to mean anything. Just kiss! Kissy kiss! Smoochy smooch! But kudos to whoever told them both to wear slutty little glasses.

Trust our gal Dakota Johnson to turn even an absence into an opportunity. The woman is low-key the queen of the press tour, perhaps Timothée’s only rival. Talk show appearances? She crushes them. Red carpets? She slays ‘em. She’s a marketing genius. Forget skincare or whatever the other girls are into, Johnson should design movie merch. Now I want Pedro Pascal’s head on a stick. Can you imagine if one of these came in every popcorn bucket? Or a pack of Pedro Pascal stickers was inside a box of candy? Materialists, gimme some materials.
