Summary

  • Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch held the No. 1 spot for a third consecutive weekend, grossing $32.5 million USD domestically and reaching a global total of $772.6 million USD
  • The John Wick spin-off Ballerina debuted to $25 million USD domestically, falling short of projections and marking the weakest opening for a film in the franchise since the original

Disney‘s live-action Lilo & Stitch has continued its impressive box office run, securing the top spot for a third consecutive weekend with an estimated $32.5 million USD domestically. This brings its North American total to a robust $337.8 million USD and its global tally to a stunning $772.6 million USD against a $100 million USD budget, making it one of the year’s highest-grossing films globally. The family-friendly hit is showing strong legs, further cementing Disney’s success in the live-action remake arena.

Meanwhile, Lionsgate‘s From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, had a less-than-ideal debut, opening to a domestic total of $25 million USD. This figure falls below the $30 million USD to $35 million USD initially projected by analysts. While the film has garnered positive reviews from critics and audiences, its opening weekend performance is the weakest for a John Wick-related movie since the original film’s debut in 2014. Ballerina added $26 million USD from international markets, bringing its worldwide opening to $51 million USD against a reported $90 million USD production budget.

Despite Ballerina‘s sluggish start, the overall box office saw a modest increase compared to the same weekend last year. Lilo & Stitch continues to be a major win for Disney, while Ballerina will need strong word-of-mouth and sustained holds in the coming weeks to prove profitable.
