MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) — About a decade ago, Monty Rice and Labryan Ray were just a pair of James Clemens students who dreamed of taking their football talents to the NFL.
And they both did.
Rice went on to play college ball for the Georgia Bulldogs, and now, he is on the New England Patriots roster
Ray, on the other hand, suited up for the Crimson Tide, winning two college football national titles, and is now a part of the Carolina Panthers organization.
They have both reached the football mountaintop, achieving their high school dreams.
But, both Rice and Ray imagined coming back to their alma mater and getting a chance to give back.
And that’s exactly what they did Saturday, hosting a youth football camp at James Clemens.
If you had told high school Rice and Ray, “Hey, one day you’re going to come back here a host a camp,” they would have been at a loss for words.
“I can say certain things that we did talk about in high school that I think about all the time. And I replayed, and you know, it just is crazy how it happened. I’m not gonna lie to you,” said Labryan Ray.
“I mean, we used to have them talks, you know, Kyrie, LeBron and myself, we used to have those talks, you know, saying we are always going to play at the next level and, you know, eventually the NFL. So it’s a blessing. I like, you know, we talked it into existence with the hard work, you know, in the dedication and it’s just amazing to do with somebody that I grew up with,” said Monty Rice.
