Glastonbury Festival headliner Rod Stewart has been forced to cancel four shows scheduled across the US over the next week, as he continues to recover from flu ahead of his big festival gig.

80-year-old Sir Rod took to Instagram to explain the decision to scrap the four dates and reschedule two others as he continues his recovery from illness:

“I have to cancel and reschedule my next six concerts in June as I continue to recover from the flu.

“So sorry my friends. I’m devastated and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to my fans. I’ll be back on stage and will see you soon.”

He signed off “Sir Rod” with a broken-heart emoji.

BBC News reports that the four cancelled gigs were scheduled for Las Vegas and Stateline, Nevada, with the two rescheduled gigs both in California.

The website reports that Stewart previously announced his intention to stop playing “large-scale world tours” at the end of this year, but was “proud, ready and more than able to pleasure and titillate my friends at Glastonbury.”

It adds that Sir Rod will become the first person to have been given legends billing having headlined the festival, following his previous appearance there in 2002 alongside Coldplay and Stereophonics.

Stewart was the first act confirmed for this year’s festival, and is planning to play for an hour and a quarter on the Pyramid Stage – his slot expected to draw a crowd of up to 100,000.

Stewart’s career goes back more than 60 years, and he’s sold an estimated 120million+ records worldwide. His biggest hits include Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?, Sailing, Maggie May and The Killing of Georgie Part I and II.

The headliners at this year’s Glastonbury Festival are The 1975, Neil Young, and Olivia Rodrigo.
